Diamond Cement Ghana to work with government on Keta Port

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Diamond Cement Ghana Ltd, to build a port at Keta, Volta region, Ghana. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's New Patriotic Party (NPP) government guaranteed that it would build a port as part of its manifesto and site preparations will start in June.

Ghana: government blamed for Diamond Cement downsizing

The Afloa Youth Association in the Volta region have accused the Ghanaian government of being insensitive towards the downsizing of local cement manufacturer Diamond Cement as a result of competition with Dangote Cement. Diamond Cement has repeatedly voiced concerns regarding Dangote’s involvement in the retail of cement in Ghana, saying it is unfair competition. Diamond Cement Ghana Ltd (DCGL) will resume production at its Aflao plant by next week following a a three week shutdown due to power shortages. The power shortage occurred due lightening striking a transformer at the GRIDCO sub-station near Aflao during a 26 April  thunderstorm.
